Smart Mobile

The Most Reliable Portable Alcohol Monitoring Device.

Smart Mobile is a remote alcohol monitoring device with a built-in camera and cellular modem.

Smart Mobile calls for tests and records breath alcohol data, the date and time, and a photo of the user’s face. The data is then uploaded via cellular and customised reports are emailed to the relevant stakeholders.

  • Customisable Test Windows
Smart Mobile test windows are completely customisable. They can be adjusted to suit any situation. Users can take voluntary tests at any time, in addition to scheduled tests.

  • Ingested Alcohol Confirmation
If a user blows an alcohol violation, the device will ask for two successive re-tests to confirm it was ingested alcohol and not a mouth contaminant, e.g. mouthwash.

  • Facial Detection
Smart Mobile used facial detection and photo ID. A digital image of the user is captured and stored at every test.
Photo records can be used to confirm identity in relation to tests and can be included in reports for monitoring a user’s compliance.

  • Test Data Uploaded

Successfully completed tests are uploaded to Smart Start’s database server via the device’s onboard cellular modem.

If a cellular signal is not available, Smart Mobile stores the data until a communication link can be established.

Smart Mobile FAQ

Smart Mobile is a remote alcohol monitoring device with a built-in camera and cellular modem.

  • You blow into a Smart Mobile, it captures a photo of your face, the date/time and an accurate alcohol reading (in the event you have alcohol in your system).
  • The data is instantly uploaded via cellular.
  • The data is then emailed in the form of a report to any interested stakeholders, usually within 10–15 min.
  • All data is stored securely in the cloud for easy access when needed. Smart Mobile data is court admissible.

If you’re not receiving your Smart Mobile reports it is likely one of two reasons.

  • Your Smart Mobile is out of reception
Smart Mobile relies on cellular to upload data to the cloud. If your Smart Mobile does not have a strong cellular connection it’s likely the data will not upload. Ensure your Smart Mobile has at least three bars of reception showing on the display.
  • Your Smart Mobile has low battery
Low battery can mean some features of the Smart Mobile will not work as they should. If the battery is low, ensure it’s plugged in to the charger in a spot where it has a strong cellular connection.

If the problem persists when your cellular connection is strong and the battery is fully charged, call us on 0800 002 182 for further troubleshooting.

If you are receiving reports with no test data, despite having taken a test, it will most likely be because the data is not uploading.

Ensure your Smart Mobile has a strong cellular connection and try taking another test which will prompt a data upload.

Smart Mobile dates show in the US format (mm/dd). It’s likely your date is correct but the format is different to what you’re used to.

If your Smart Mobile is showing an incorrect date we recommend you take a voluntary test to prompt a data upload. Prior to taking a test, ensure your Smart Mobile has a strong cellular connection. Once the Smart Mobile completes the data upload, your date should correct itself.

Smart Mobiles are very accurate and they will detect alcohol regardless of where it comes from. There are a lot of everyday thing that can contain traces of alcohol (e.g. mouthwash, fermented foods/drinks, some vapes/cigarettes).

To prevent your Smart Mobile from detecting any contaminants, we recommend you don’t eat, drink, smoke or chew in the 10 min

If you do cause a contaminant reading, the Smart Mobile will count down for 2 minutes before calling for a follow-up test. In this time, drink some water and make sure you take the follow-up test(s) which will prove the initial failure was from a contaminant.

prior to taking a test.

Violations are any breath samples which contain alcohol and any missed test windows. It’s important you take every test your Smart Mobile calls for to ensure you don’t cause a missed test violation.

You will receive a USB charge cable with your Smart Mobile. You can plug it into any USB port to charge your device. Sometimes the charge cable can be difficult to plug in. Make sure the proper sides align before you plug it in and do not try forcing it.

Plug the device into an electrical outlet or the USB port of a computer. If the battery is completely dead, it may take a few minutes to charge enough to turn on again. If the device was stored in extreme cold overnight, it may also take some time to warm up.

In order to take a test, “Ready”, “Blow”, or “Test Required” must be displayed on your device. Make sure that your mouthpiece is aligned correctly and inserted all the way into the device. If the device is in the middle of a data upload, it may not be ready for you to take a test yet.

No, with a Smart Mobile you can take a voluntary test at any time. There is no limit to the number of voluntary tests you take in a day. To take a voluntary test, press any button to wake up the Smart Mobile, wait until the screen shows “Ready” and then blow.
